Island At A Glance
Khao Lak, on the west coast of Thailand, is the best place from which to explore and dive the beautiful Similan Islands and the dive sites of Koh Bon Island, part of the Surin National Marine Park in the Andaman Sea.
The intimate Palm Garden Resort Khao Lak, managed by Sea Bees Diving, is just one hour's drive from Phuket Airport and sits at the base of a green and lush tropical mountain, with Khao Lak National Park to the south and Khao Sok National Park to the north. The ten bungalows nestle among the green tropical gardens and are centred around the large swimming pool with its jacuzzi and waterfall. The bungalows are simply but comfortably furnished. The nearby white sandy beaches are ideal for swimming and relaxing in a tranquil setting.
The Sea Bees Dive Centre offers full day day diving trips on their substantial day boats, courses for beginners with exercises in the three metre pool and theory lessons in air-conditioned classrooms. They also operate a number of three and six day liveaboards that access the diving in the Similans, Koh Bon Island, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock.
There's loads to do in Khao Lak aside from diving; rent a motorbike and explore the stunning beaches, explore the town and enjoy that gorgeous Thai food. A trip to visit Kao Sok National Park, elephant trekking, the local market and a visit to the Turtle conservation Unit will also entertain you.
Restaurants & Bars
The large open-sided restaurant and bar serves delicious Thai food and also an international cuisine. Snacks and cocktails are available throughout the day and meals and drinks may be served on the private balconies.
The white sandy beaches of Khao Lak are a wonderful place to swim. Cars and mopeds are available for hire to explore the surrounding countryside and daily boat trips take divers and snorkellers to the beautiful Similan islands.Two National Parks offer some spectacular walking along nature trails with verdant rainforest, huge cliffs and rock formations and impressive waterfalls. Activities in Khao Sok National Park also include river rafting and canoeing.
The Thai Navy has been involved in protecting turtles for a number of years and they have a turtle conservation unit at the Navy Base at Tap Lamu which is a 50 minute drive from Khao Lak, you might also like to try elephant trekking or some Thai cookery classes. The choice of activities are diverse and numerous !
If you wish to have a quiet time within the resort, you might like yoga sessions in the gardens or a massage, then a cocktail beside the pool under a large parasol are the perfect way to relax and discuss the activities of the day.
The Dive Centre is well organised and run by the owners of the resort, Sea Bees Diving who have a multilingual team of staff. They offer a complete range of SSI and PADI courses, from complete beginner to professional instructor. Theory is taught in air-conditioned classrooms and beginners have their first underwater experience in the safe environment of the large swimming pool.
Full day, two dive trips are offered on comfortable, custom built fast boats with plenty of space to relax and enjoy the journey on the way. These boats visit the Similan Islands in the Andaman Sea six days a week and the island of Koh Bon once a week. The Similan islands are known for their dramatic topography of huge boulders above and below the water. This is world class diving with excellent visibility and a wealth of tropical fish, coral gardens and large pelagics. Koh Bon is part of the Surin National Park and has become reknowned for whalesharks and manta rays.
Sea Bees operate their day trips from the MV Stingray, a large catamaran equipped with telephone, GPS and radar. The boat has a large sundeck, comfortable salon and powerful diesel engines which will take divers to the wonderful Similan Islands in just under two hours. Breakfast and delicious Thai specialities for lunch are prepared on board. The MV Runaway is a traditional 17 metre teak built boat which takes a maximum of twelve divers on day trips. With a beautiful downstairs salon and large covered sundeck, MV Runaway is an elegant craft, equipped with the latest in navigation and handling equipment. An on-board telephone enables the crew to keep in touch with the dive centre at the resort. Both the day boats have a medical first aid station and oxygen supply available.
Nitrox and technical diving courses are available from the dive centre and rebreather diving is also supported.
If you are travelling from the UK we can arrange flights to Phuket on either award winning Emirates, Singapore or Malaysian Airlines - we are very pleased to be able to offer our clients 30kgs luggage allowance for dive equipment with each of these carriers. Khao Lak is a 1 hour drive by car or minibus from Phuket Airport.

For the Marco Polo liveaboard it includes return transfers, 6 nights’ accommodation in a double Honeymoon Cabin with full board, tea, coffee, soft drinks, tanks and weights, Nitrox (for certified divers), torches and dive guide.
For the dive package days on board Excalibur II it includes transfers, 2** dives per day with use of tanks and weights, dive guide, breakfast, lunch, (dinner on Sunday), fruit, tea, coffee and drinking water (from a water dispenser).
