Palm Garden Resort Phuket
Island At A Glance
Phuket is the largest island in Thailand, 900 km south of Bangkok in the Andaman Sea. The Palm Garden Resort is on the southernmost tip of the island, within easy reach of excellent diving in the Phi Phi Islands, Anemone Reef and Shark Point, while liveaboard boats go to the amazing Similan Islands, Koh Bon and Koh Tachi.
The Palm Garden Resort in Phuket is owned and run by Sea Bees Diving and is just 300 metres from their main Dive Centre in Chalong Bay, from where the boats set out for diving and sightseeing excursions. The two-room Thai style bungalows of the resort are set amongst a tropical garden with wonderful exotic plants and palm trees offering privacy and shade; each bungalow has a secluded balcony with sunbed and hammock - a wonderful place to have a quiet drink and talk about the day's activities. An international cuisine and delicious Thai speciality dishes as well as snacks and cocktails can be served either in the large, open-sided restaurant or in the privacy of your bungalow.
The Sea Bees Dive Centre offers courses for beginners with training in the safe environment of the three metre pool and theory lessons in multi-media air-conditioned classrooms. SSI and PADI courses up to professional level are also available. Their well-equipped dive boats make one day, overnight and six day trips to some of the best diving to be found in the Andaman Sea. Marine life is rich and varied, with beautiful soft and hard corals, colourful reef fish and large pelagics, including the elusive leopard shark.
Phuket is a busy place with many activities both in the water and on land. The rich national parks in the mountains and lakes of the area can be explored by car, bike or moped, while the impressive walks and trails are well marked. After a busy day, what could be nicer than to relax with a yoga session in the garden or to relax on the sunbeds, tables and chairs by the large irregular shaped outdoor pool, with its waterfall and jacuzzi.
Restaurants & Bars
The large open sided restaurant serves excellent Thai dishes as well as an international cuisine. Snacks, cocktails and soft drinks are available throughout the day and may be served either in the restaurant, beside the pool on on the private terrace of your bungalow.
Phuket is the largest island in Thailand at 543 square kilometres and is made up of tropical rain forest, mountains, lakes and waterfalls as well as miles of sandy beaches fringed with palm trees. Cars, bikes and mopeds are available for hire or, for the more adventurous, elephant trekking is a great way to enjoy the scenery from a high perspective!
Chalong Bay is a large yachting centre and boats depart regularly for diving, island hopping and snorkelling trips. Sea canoes are a fun way to explore the inlets and coves formed by the amazing rock formations and land based activities include golf and go-karting.
If Thai food is one of your favourites, why not take a cooking course where you buy your ingredients on the busy market and learn how to make those tasty specialities from the area. Whatever you choose to do, you'll find the Thai people are really friendly and helpful and do everything possible to make your holiday a happy experience.
Diving is run by the owners of the resort, Sea Bees Diving and their friendly and helpful multilingual team are on hand to help and offer advice. A range of SSI and PADI courses are available, from beginner to professional instructor. Beginners start their course in the safe environment of the 3m pool and theory classes take place in multi-media, air-conditioned classrooms.
The waters of the Andaman Sea are beautifully clear with rock formations, hard and soft corals and a variety of fish from the smallest reef dwellers to the large pelagics. Sea Bees run trips on the MV Excalibur II, which leaves Chalong Bay for a one day, two dive excursion, while her sister ship, the ultra-modern MV Aragon, travels around Phuket Island and also offers overnight trips, with sleeping accommodation in 12 bunk beds in an area divided into six compartments. The two powerful engines enable her to take divers to sites further afield in just two hours of cruising time, such as Hin Daeng, Hun Muang and the famous Phi Phi Islands, a favourite location of movie makers, where huge rocks loom out of the sea and underwater teems with a vast array of tropical marine life. Both these boats have large dive platforms for easy access in and out of the water, individual space for storing gear and fresh water showers, comfortable salons and large sundecks. International and Thai dishes are prepared in the onboard kitchen and snacks and drinks are always available.
MV Marco Polo is a 24m liveboard making six day excursions to the wonderful Similan Islands with their dramatic rock formations, large dropoffs and long coral reefs, to Koh Bon in the Surin National Park, renowned for whaleshark and manta sightings, to the stunning coral gardens of Koh Tachai and to see the sharks and macro life on Richlieu Rock. With excellent visibility, this is some of the best diving in the world.
MV Marco Polo has four twin cabins, three double cabins and hot water showers. The comfortable salon has video equipment and screens while the large covered party deck is a great place to gather for a sundowner and share your experiences of the day.
All Sea Bees dive boats are well equipped with GPS, ship to shore communication, oxygen and comprehensive medical centres and the experienced crew are always there to ensure your comfort and safety while you enjoy the very best diving that the region has to offer.
