Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort is a unique resort, built on stilts over the Ligitan Reefs of Kapalai Island, which itself is little more than a sand bar stretching over the reefs. With access to many dive sites, including its own fantastic house reef, and being just a short boat ride from Sipadan, Kapalai is a diver's paradise.

Located between the islands of Sipadan and Mabul, Kapalai Dive Resort is a series of spacious wooden chalets, each with large private balconies and spectacular sea views, linked to a main building by long wooden jetties which crisscross the clear turquoise water.

A variety of fantastic diving is on offer from Kapalai, including a house reef easily accessed from the dive centre, muck diving sites at the nearby island of Mabul plus Sipadan itself, famous for its wall diving and prolific marine life.

Restaurants & Bars

The large, spacious and attractive restaurant offers a good choice of dishes and there is a west facing bar where you can enjoy the beautiful sunsets after your day's diving.

With a wonderful circular deck and easy access to the sea, the ocean is your swimming pool!

Other activities include kayaking and snorkelling on the house reef. There is also a games room and broadband internet access.

Kapalai is a muck diving paradise and is home to many unusual and rare creatures of the macro world. Ghost pipefish, frogfish, blue ringed octopus, mandarin fish, flamboyant cuttlefish, crocodilefish and mantis shrimp all live in this outstanding reef system, making it perfect for underwater photography.

The dive sites around Kapalai are extremely close and shallow, and are quite spectacular. Consisting of small sloping reefs approximately 15m deep it is home to many strange, intriguing and beautiful critters.

Everyday at dusk, adjacent to the Kapalai jetty, you can catch the spectacular mating ritual of the colorful mandarin fish. Leaf scorpionfish and frog fish of various colors inhabit the sloping reefs on all sides of the islands. Below the shallow sloping reef is a sandy plateau, which is home to five small wrecks. At the base of these wrecks you can find giant stingrays, large schools of jack fish, barracuda and potato groupers often reaching over two meters in length. Within the wrecks lie many unusual marine invertebrates including orangutan crabs, spider crabs, multi-coloured nudibranchs, and many different species of shrimp.

Kapalai has a superbly equipped dive centre, staffed by a dedicated team, all experts in the marine ecology of the local dive sites. Three boat dives per day are typically scheduled to offshore sites, including the islands of Mabul and Sipadan. Immediately in front of the dive centre are wooden steps leading down to a fantastic house reef and guests can enjoy unlimted diving here day and night.
