Mabul Smart Divers Resort
Island At A Glance
Located off the east coast of Sabah, Mabul is a small, lush island with beautiful, white sandy beaches and easy access to the amazing diving of Sipadan and Kapalai.
Smart Divers is one of three resorts on Mabul and is located on the south east side of the island, surrounded by coconut trees and overlooking the ocean.
Accommodation is in 45 wooden, semi-detached duplex chalets, all with air conditioning and ensuite bathrooms.
The "muck" diving around Mabul and Kapalai is excellent, with a remarkable variety of invertebrates - great for photographers, and the famous dive sites of Sipadan are just a fifteen minute boat ride away.
Restaurants & Bars
Meals are mainly buffet style of both Asian and Western dishes and are served in the dining hall of the Main House, a large open air pavilion.
The resort has a swimming pool, jacuzzi and spa which offers a range of massage and relaxing treatments. As well as diving, guests can enjoy kayaking on the ocean or snorkelling on the house reef.
Broadband internet is available.
Sipadan Mabul Resort was recently given a PADI Gold Palm Resorts award which recognises quality accommodation, superior service and excellent dive opportunities.
The dive centre offers diving to nearby "muck" diving sites around Mabul and Kapalai and full day trips to dive the exciting sites of Sipadan Island. They operate six fibreglass boats that each accommodate ten divers and depart for dives three times a day. The Technical Dive Centre (SMART-Tec) offers good Nitrox diving support and courses as well as a range of PADI specialty courses, including the PADI Cavern Diver, where you will be taken into the famous Turtle Cavern on Sipadan Island. If you wish to pursue the cave diving experience further, you can even take a full Cave Diver course. The resort also has its own house reef for unlimited day and night dives.
For the conservation of the reefs, the numbers of divers at Sipadan are restricted to 120 per day so you need to obtain and pay for a permit from Sabah Parks Management; these permits are issued on a first come, first served basis.
