Liveaboard At A Glance
Humboldt Explorer is a 32 metre first class, purpose-built steel dive boat launched in 2010 with spacious accommodation for just 16 passengers in 8 en-suite cabins.
The attentive crew of seven offer a very high level of service and dives are accompanied by two Galapagos National Park Marine Reserve Guides who are eager to pass on their extensive knowledge of the Galapagos.
Humboldt Explorer operates out of San Cristobal every Monday throughout the year and is the only vessel in the Galapagos to be granted four days diving at Darwin and Wolf on an eight day trip by the Galapagos National Park Authority!
Humboldt Explorer’s accommodation is located on the main and lower decks. Six cabins have a queen sized bed which can be made into a twin and two cabins are twin beds. Each cabin is en-suite with a bath and shower, flat screen TV and windows
On the main deck is the air conditioned saloon with a spacious dining area where meals are served buffet style, an entertainment area with a TV, CD/DVD player, video library and lounge area and a large dive deck.
The partially covered sun deck features a large lounge area and a Jacuzzi with plenty of sunbathing space.
The dive deck is situated on the main deck and has a bathroom, large camera table with charging station, individual storage areas, fresh water rinse bins for cameras and dive gear.
A maximum of four dives will be made daily; two in the morning and one in the afternoon, after each dive snacks and clean towels will be provided.
All dives are from two large pangas boarded from the dive deck and are accompanied by a naturalist dive guide and a diving instructor assistant.
Nitrox facilities are available at an extra charge, a range of courses including PADI Advanced Open Water and PADI Nitrox certification can be prebooked and a full range of diving equipment is available for rent by prior arrangement.
The diving in the Galapagos is not for beginner divers, we recommend it for mid-level to advanced divers, especially for Darwin and Wolf. These remote islands can only be reached by liveaboard and diving conditions are considered medium to hard due to the dive site, currents and depths.
On a typical day you will see Galapagos sharks, silky sharks, schools of hammerheads, tuna, eagle rays, sea lions and turtles. The best time to see whalesharks is from June – December.
