Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa is a luxury boutique resort situated on the island of Dhonakulhi and is perfect for those seeking the idyllic and remote Maldivian experience. The island is just half a kilometre wide and boasts a beautiful beach of over a kilometre long on each side.

Hideaway Beach is designed as an intimate, luxurious resort with exceptional standards of accommodation and service. The island itself is located on a natural channel which splits the reef in two distinct parts, forming a natural harbour for the marina and a unique house reef. The narrow channel is much used by passing dolphins and many other big pelagics, including manta rays. The entire island is covered by rich dense vegetation and, despite the extensive facilities and services at Island Hideaway, only five percent of the island has been developed, leaving the rest in its natural state with coconut trees, banana trees and shrub jungle. The villas are tucked into the lush greenery and scattered along the beach line about 30 meters apart from one another, providing maximum privacy and all boasting breathtaking panoramic views over the beautiful turquoise lagoon and Indian Ocean. Each villa also comes with a personal butler. The intimacy of this resort also makes it perfect for a honeymoon or romantic holiday.

The Gaafushi Restaurant is built over the lagoon and offers fine dining, with authentic Asian, Japanese and Maldivian cuisine along with seafood specialities.

The Meeru Bar is situated on the beach and has a unique design; the roof structure is like the inside of a boat hull and the deck area extends over the water. The bar serves exotic drinks and snacks and is the perfect place to watch the sun setting at the end of a perfect day.

The swim-up Pool Bar offers a wide selection of drinks and snacks, from cocktails, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and freshly squeezed juices.

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa offers a host of entertainment and leisure facilities, from watersports including speedboat trips, catamaran sailing, snorkelling, windsurfing, canoeing, wakeboarding and scuba diving to the more relaxing Hideaway Library which offers many books, magazines, board games, CDs, DVDs and internet use.

The island has a fully equipped gymnasium, tennis courts, beach volleyball, hidden bicycle trails and the beautiful Hideaway Spa by Mandara, where each treatment room has an ocean view.

The Spa offers a range of therapies combining traditional Asian favourites with Elemis Spa treatments, which include massages, body packs, detox, facial treatments and manicures or pedicures.

There is also the option to take a cultural excursion to experience Maldivian heritage, or participate in a sunset or night fishing trip on board a traditional Maldivian Dhoni fishing boat, where expert chefs will prepare your catches in whatever manner you desire!

You may choose to take an Aerial Photo Flight over the scenic atolls or take a trip to a nearby uninhabited island or sandbank lagoon and spend the day swimming and feasting on your own private picnic barbeque.

Diving

The dive centre on Hideway Beach Resort & Spa, run by Meridis Dive, provides the latest technology and highest quality equipment including full nitrox diving facilities, underwater scooters, audio-visual classrooms and a dive specialist boutique. The dive centre also offers the complete range of PADI courses from Open Water Diver through to Divemaster, including many PADI Specialties such as Enriched Air Nitrox, Underwater Photographer and Wreck Diver.

The house reef channel has average depths of 16 meters and is perfect for drift diving. In the manta season, between November/December through to May, the channel is full of manta rays. There are at least 20 nearby dive sites which are situated on the current-rich outer reef and attract manta rays, eagle rays, grey reef sharks, turtles, big schools of tuna, barracudas, dolphins and also a chance of seeing whalesharks and other whales! Sites include two ship wrecks at a depth of 16 metres with fantastic fish life and 'The Aquarium', where you can see bluestripe snappers, groupers, tuna fish, moray eels and lion fish and many more. There is also a good chance of seeing manta rays during the season. 'Heaven & Hell' is one of the best dive sites for soft corals; the thila starts at about 18 meters and has overhangs on all sides of the reef which are covered in amazing soft corals of yellow, pink, green and blue. 'Cathedral' is a dive site with a beautiful swim through starting at 20 meters and is covered with corals and usually there are several sting rays in the overhangs. Ihavandhoo Channel Thila is a shallow thila in the middle of a channel where lots of reef fish can be seen, along with mantas. Meridis also offer guided snorkelling trips and night snorkelling.

The snorkelling in the atoll is almost as impressive as the diving, with swarms of small fish, giant turtles, metre-long mantas and slim sharks patrolling the reef.
